You can still use the feature where someone can e-mail you and it show up on your phone as a text by e-mailing to your10digitnumber@vtext.com (for SMS) or your10digitnumber@vzwpix.com (for MMS).. In the future, on the vtext.com website when you login, there is a 'Preferences' option along the red toolbar to the left that allows you to block all website and email based messages. You can also block up to 10 specific vtext.com addresses on that page.

But for a setup where gmail forwards emails to my_phone_number@vtext.com, I don't get anything at all. If I set it to forward to my_phone_number@ vzwpix.com, it works. Update: forwarding now works again for my_phone_number@vtext.com.

I've been chasing this for a bit, and it DID work for many years. Here's a maillog entry showing the message successfully being delivered to vtext, but never to my phone (domain names and phone number changed)
